Battlehawks Seek Redemption Against Brahmas in Home Opener

ST. LOUIS, MO — The St. Louis Battlehawks are set to return to the Dome at America’s Center for their home opener on April 6, 2025, after a commanding win against the Houston Roughnecks. This matchup marks a chance for revenge against the San Antonio Brahmas, who defeated the Battlehawks in last year’s XFL Conference Championship.
“We’re incredibly excited to get back there,” said Manny Wilkins, the Battlehawks’ starting quarterback for Week 1. “Just to be in front of a group of fans who love football there, they’re diehard football fans. It’s an advantage that clearly no other team has.” Wilkins finished with impressive stats in the previous game, passing for 189 yards and rushing for two touchdowns in the team’s 31-6 victory.
President of Team Operations David Kinsey echoed Wilkins’ sentiments, emphasizing the unique atmosphere Battlehawks fans create. “There’s no other fan base like this in the league whatsoever,” he said. “I think you’re going to see a lot of people excited to see the 1-0 Battlehawks try to make it 2-0.” The Battlehawks consistently draw large crowds, setting franchise attendance records dating back to their XFL days.
The team is also introducing a family-friendly tailgate event, beginning at 2 p.m. in Baer Plaza, before players cross the street to the Dome at 2:30 p.m., high-fiving fans along the way. “You’re going to see more of the Lou you love. That’s our theme heading into the season,” said Kinsey.
After the season opener, the Battlehawks set a franchise record with 273 rushing yards and 460 total offensive yards, showcasing a promising start. Kinsey noted a noticable difference in the team’s mentality this season, asserting, “I think mentality. We come in, not focusing on what happened the last two years.”
Wilkins highlighted the drive of the players, stating, “A lot of guys are hungry to get to the next level and that adds urgency to our play. We know this window of opportunity is not a huge window.” The Battlehawks’ offensive line, which tied for the UFL Offensive Player of the Week, will continue to play a crucial role.
The pivotal matchup against the San Antonio Brahmas kicks off at 5:30 p.m. CDT this Sunday. Fans can expect a fast-paced game filled with tension and excitement as the Battlehawks seek to avenge last season’s loss and build momentum for the remainder of the season.
