Ben Johnson Bears Halftime Interview

CHICAGO, IL — Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson expressed regret on Monday about a tense halftime interview during his team’s narrow 25-24 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders the previous day.

With the Bears trailing 14-9 and struggling offensively, Johnson was approached by CBS reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala at halftime. She asked about the team’s inability to capitalize on turnovers, leading to a somewhat confrontational exchange.

Johnson recalled that he misheard Kinkhabwala’s question about whether he needed to change his game plan, interpreting it instead as a statement rather than a genuine inquiry. He responded curtly, saying, “I don’t know, you think so? We’re going to be just fine.”

Reflecting on the interview, Johnson said, “In the moment, I honestly didn’t think too much of it — I’m kind of in game mode. But when I look back at it, I am a little bit disappointed with what that looks like.”

Johnson acknowledged the importance of clear communication and vowed to improve in future media interactions. “When I thought I heard not a question but a statement that I needed to make some changes, I didn’t take that very well,” he said. “I’ll do a better job with those going forward.”

Despite the offensive struggles, the Bears managed to secure the win thanks to a pivotal moment in the closing seconds when cornerback Kyler Gordon blocked a 54-yard field goal attempt by the Raiders. Johnson praised his team for their character in overcoming adversity throughout the game.

<p“The offensive performance was a mess, and I’m not proud of what we put on tape. I always take it personally,” Johnson said. “Like I said, the bye week is coming at a good time, and we’re really going to be able to take a good look at ourselves.”

The coach’s comments have sparked discussions among fans and analysts, with many noting the critical areas the team needs to address moving forward.
