Bears’ Tight End Colston Loveland Out Against Raiders Due to Injury

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago Bears will be without rookie tight end Colston Loveland for their upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday due to a hip injury. Loveland, who was selected 10th overall in April’s draft, has struggled with injuries this season, raising questions about his immediate impact.
Loveland exited last week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys in the first half after making a promising 31-yard reception. As the game progressed, he suffered a hip injury that left him unable to return. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Loveland’s injury is not considered serious, but he is not expected to suit up for the game against the Raiders.
Despite Loveland’s potential, his early season performance has been underwhelming. He has caught only three passes for 43 yards over the first three games. Bears head coach Ben Johnson acknowledged last week that more involvement was needed for both Loveland and fellow tight end Cole Kmet in the offensive scheme.
Kmet, who has been a reliable target for the Bears over the past two seasons, will now take on an even more crucial role with Loveland sidelined. He recorded four catches for 70 yards and a touchdown in the last game against the Cowboys. Although he has primarily been used as a blocker this season, Kmet is expected to run more routes and become a focal point in the passing game against the Raiders.
In Loveland’s absence, the Bears elevated tight end Stephen Carlson from the practice squad to provide additional depth. The team is hopeful that Loveland will recover quickly and return to the field, but for now, they must adjust without him.
