Belinda Bencic Claims 10th Career Title in Tokyo
Tokyo, Japan – Belinda Bencic won the Toray Pan Pacific Open on Sunday, defeating 20-year-old Linda Noskova 6-2, 6-3 in just 1 hour and 22 minutes. This victory marks Bencic’s milestone 10th career title and her second title of the season.
The win is particularly significant for Bencic, as it comes 10 years after she lost in the final of this same tournament as an 18-year-old. This time, her experience played a crucial role. Bencic entered the final as the more seasoned player, having logged over five hours on the court leading up to the match.
“It was wonderful playing in front of you guys,” Bencic said in her post-match interview. She recalled the last time she played in Tokyo during the 2020 Olympics, which took place in an empty stadium, adding to the significance of this win. “I love to play in Japan, so I’m super happy to finally win this tournament.”
Bencic faced a challenging path to the final, including a tense quarterfinal match against Karolina Muchova, where she came back from a set down and saved a match point. Noskova, on the other hand, had breezed through her earlier rounds, spending only 35 minutes on the court due to her opponents’ retirements.
In the final, Bencic showed her skills by saving all 10 break points against her. She broke Noskova twice to secure the first set, which lasted just 32 minutes. The second set featured crucial moments where Bencic maintained composure despite facing pressure.
Noskova managed to hang in at times but struggled with her consistency, tallying 37 unforced errors throughout the match. “You are a wonderful player, and for sure you will win many titles,” Bencic noted during the trophy presentation, acknowledging Noskova’s potential.
In doubles, Timea Babos and Luisa Stefani also celebrated a victory, winning their fourth title of 2025 by defeating Anna Danilina and Alexsandra Krunic 6-1, 6-4. Babos now has a total of 29 WTA doubles titles, while Stefani claimed her 13th.
