Aaron Ramsey, the seasoned midfielder for Wales, has been tipped for a potential future in football management by his national team manager, Craig Bellamy. However, Bellamy has dismissed recent speculation linking Ramsey with a player-coach role at Cardiff City as premature. The Cardiff-based club is currently in search of a new manager following the dismissal of Erol Bulut last month.

Last month, Ramsey was sidelined with a hamstring injury, ruling him out for at least two months. As a result, he will miss Wales’ upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Montenegro. Despite his absence on the pitch, Bellamy is keen to keep Ramsey involved off the field. “I definitely see that part of him [management]… I believe it’s starting to circle,” stated Bellamy, reflecting on Ramsey’s potential for a transition into managerial roles.

Cardiff City is experiencing managerial instability, seeking their 12th permanent manager in 14 years, after parting ways with Bulut. Omer Riza has stepped in as the interim coach, and has already led Cardiff to their first Championship win of the season. Bellamy confirmed that Ramsey, though holding a UEFA A licence, is not being considered for a coaching position at the club at this time. “I don’t see that at the moment [for Ramsey], no,” Bellamy remarked.

Bellamy compared the situation to Vincent Kompany’s dual role at Anderlecht, highlighting the challenges faced by player-managers. “That was the first time I’ve seen it close up,” Bellamy noted, referencing his experience working alongside Kompany. According to Bellamy, Ramsey has the necessary experience and knowledge required for high-level management in the future.

In addition to his leadership qualities, Ramsey’s understanding of the game has been praised by Bellamy, who has known the player since childhood. Bellamy’s confidence in Ramsey’s adeptness comes from their strong relationship, rooted in Ramsey’s early years. “I try and involve him a lot in tactically what we look to do,” Bellamy shared, emphasizing Ramsey’s involvement in Wales’ strategic planning despite his injury.

Though unable to participate in the upcoming matches, Ramsey remains close to the team, with Bellamy intending to keep the player informed and engaged. “He won’t miss too much… I believe he will be with the camp as well during this period,” Bellamy added, hopeful that Ramsey’s insights will contribute to the team’s strategy against Iceland and Montenegro.
