Ben Brown Announces Retirement from AFL
In exciting news for Melbourne AFL fans, Ben Brown has announced that he will hang up his boots at the end of the 2024 season. After an impressive career that spanned over 11 seasons, Brown has decided it’s time to retire.
The 31-year-old forward has had quite a journey in the AFL, playing 175 games and scoring 360 goals during his time with North Melbourne and Melbourne. Though he started his career with North Melbourne back in 2014, it’s his recent time with the Demons that fans will remember most fondly.
Brown joined Melbourne in 2020, and his presence was immediately felt. He played a key role in helping the Demons secure their premiership victory in 2021, ending a long 57-year drought for the club. Reflecting on his time, Brown expressed gratitude for the opportunity to fulfill his childhood dream of playing professional football.
In a heartfelt statement, he thanked both clubs, saying, “To North Melbourne, thank you for giving me an opportunity… To Melbourne, thank you for welcoming me with open arms. The past four seasons have been some of my most cherished.” His contributions to the sport extended beyond the field, as he also participated in community initiatives.
<pDespite facing injury issues that affected his performance in the later stages of his career, Brown remained a professional and dedicated athlete. He has promised fans one last chance to see him in action at Melbourne’s Round 24 match against Collingwood, where supporters can show their appreciation for his contributions.
