Big E Kofi Kingston Xavier Woods Wwe Royal Rumble

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — As WWE gears up for its 2025 Royal Rumble in Indianapolis, Big E reminisced about a standout moment from the 2018 event in Philadelphia, where he and his New Day teammates, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, created one of the most memorable saves in Royal Rumble history.

“The Rumble’s such a special event for so many different people. When I was cool with my old partners, we had a lot of fun,” Big E told Indy Sports Daily. He specifically recalled a moment involving a basket toss, pancakes, and a daring save that kept Kingston in the match.

The incident occurred after Jinder Mahal eliminated both Woods and Big E. As Mahal attempted to eliminate Kingston, one of Kingston’s feet touched the floor. Woods caught the other foot and placed it on a plate of pancakes introduced by Big E. Together, Woods and Big E launched Kingston over Mahal’s head, with commentator Michael Cole likening the move to a “pogo stick.”

“There was one Kofi save where we had a basket toss, he landed on a pile of pancakes,” Big E explained. “Woods was a cheerleader in grade school, and he taught me how to basket toss, so we basket tossed Kofi up in the air. That’s one of those things where if you mess it up live, it’s like ‘Alright, it’s done,’ but to be able to be a part of one of Kofi’s saves was really cool. That’s one of my fond memories.”

Despite the creative save, Kingston’s return to the ring was short-lived, as Andrade eliminated him shortly after. However, Kingston did manage to eliminate Mahal before his own exit.

The 2018 Royal Rumble remains a highlight for fans of The New Day, showcasing the trio’s chemistry and creativity in high-pressure situations. Big E’s reflections come as WWE prepares for another Royal Rumble, set to take place in Indianapolis on Jan. 31, 2025.
