BJP Leads in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim Assembly Elections: Vote Count Underway
The fate of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim‘s Assembly elections hangs in the balance as the vote counting process unfolds. The counting is currently ongoing for the challenging electoral battles in these two northeastern states.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the counting commenced at 6 a.m. with the postal ballots being the first to be scrutinized. The BJP has already secured 10 uncontested victories, setting a strong foundation for the party.
Out of the 60 seats in Arunachal Pradesh, 50 results are expected to be announced today. In the previous elections of 2019, the BJP emerged victorious on 41 seats. This time around, the BJP has fielded candidates for all 60 seats, positioning themselves for a significant electoral outcome.
Notable figures like Chief Minister Pema Khandu are among the winners without contest. Various constituencies like Tawang, Thrizino, Mukto, and Tezu are witnessing multiple uncontested victories.
At the central level, the fight is primarily between the BJP and Congress in Arunachal Pradesh. With Congress contesting on only 19 seats, the BJP seems poised to secure a government easily.
In Sikkim, the BJP and SKM (Sikkim Krantikari Morcha) engage in a fierce competition against the SDF (Sikkim Democratic Front). Both parties have fielded candidates across all constituencies.
The BJP has candidates competing in all 32 seats, while the SKM and Citizen Action Party-Sikkim are contesting on 30 seats each. Meanwhile, the Congress has candidates on 12 seats.
Prem Singh Tamang, leading SKM’s front, is campaigning against Pawan Chamling of the SDF in the Soreng-Chakung and Poklok-Kamrang constituencies, where the competition is intense.
The vote counting process in Sikkim is crucial, particularly considering the previous elections where SKM had secured 17 out of 32 seats, ending SDF’s longstanding rule in the state.
