Blake Shelton Discusses Love and New Album Before Major Anniversary

Nashville, TN — Country superstar Blake Shelton is looking forward to celebrating his tenth anniversary with singer Gwen Stefani later this year. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Shelton reflected on their relationship as he prepares to release his new album, ‘For Recreational Use Only,’ on May 9.

“It honestly does feel like time is flying by,” Shelton, 48, said. “When we talk about memories, it’s surprising to realize that some events were eight years ago. It all feels like it happened so quickly.” While he acknowledges that a decade is significant, Shelton claims the relationship feels fresh and exciting.

“I feel like that might be the key to happiness,” he noted. Shelton and Stefani, 55, collaborated on a duet titled “Hangin’ On” for the upcoming album, and he indicated that they had recorded two duets but decided to save one for a future project.

“Both songs fired us up, but we ended up holding one back for the next project,” Shelton explained.

On the creative process, he added, “We live together, so we walk around the house singing these songs all the time, and by the time we get to the studio, we’re normally really prepared.”

Stefani has also stayed passionate about song lyrics over the years. Shelton jokingly pointed out their contrasting approaches to songwriting. “Gwen is way more particular about lyrics than I am. It’s crucial for her to connect with the songs she sings,” he shared.

With summer approaching, Shelton expressed excitement about spending time with family. “Gwen and I have our summers wide open. We both have a few shows here and there, but we don’t have any plans. That’s our favorite plan,” he said.

As he promotes his new album, Shelton remains appreciative of his career with 30 number-one hits on country radio, the latest being ‘Texas.’ He shared his gratitude with fans in a recent Instagram post, highlighting his long journey in the music industry.
