Blowing Snow Advisory Issued for Westman and City of Brandon by Environment Canada
Environment Canada has recently issued a Blowing Snow Advisory for Westman, including the City of Brandon, citing anticipated poor visibility due to snow and blowing snow in specific locations.
A low-pressure system situated over east-central parts of the province continues its path towards the northeast today. Strong westerly or southwesterly winds, with gusts reaching up to 70 km/h, are expected to persist through the morning. These intense winds, combined with light snowfall, are forecasted to result in reduced visibilities due to blowing snow.
The conditions are projected to gradually improve by Monday morning as the low-pressure system progresses towards northern Ontario. This movement will lead to a decrease in winds and a tapering off of the snowfall.
Travel conditions are likely to be perilous due to diminished visibility in certain areas. Motorists are advised to be prepared to adjust their driving behavior according to the evolving road conditions. If visibility diminishes while driving, it is recommended to reduce speed, keep an eye out for brake lights ahead, and be ready to come to a stop.
Blowing snow advisories, like the current one, are issued by Environment Canada when strong winds are anticipated to cause blowing snow that significantly reduces visibility to 800 meters or less for a minimum of 3 hours.
