St. Louis Blues Coaching Changes

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — St. Louis Blues Head Coach Jim Montgomery announced a major overhaul of the team’s lineup following a disappointing loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. During a press conference on Friday, Montgomery expressed his desire to change things up, saying, “We’re going to blender it up.” This strategy aims to enhance offensive performance as the Blues prepare to face the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.

Montgomery’s changes include new forward line combinations. The top line will now feature Dylan Holloway, Robert Thomas, and Jake Neighbours, while the second line includes Pavel Buchnevich, Pius Suter, and Jimmy Snuggerud. Additionally, Brayden Schenn is set to center Jordan Kyrou and Mathieu Joseph. Montgomery noted the need for more offensive speed and improved puck control, stating, “You’re always going to go through a situation where we’re not generating enough offensively.”

The power play units also received a transformation, with Thomas positioned at the goal line alongside Kyrou and Holloway on the flanks. Buchnevich will occupy the bumper role, while Cam Fowler takes charge at the point. Montgomery commented on the power play’s effectiveness, saying, “There’s no flow, there’s no mojo when we go over the boards right now.” He hopes these adjustments will spark the desired momentum.

Adding to the changes, defenseman Matthew Kessel will make his season debut, replacing Logan Mailloux. Montgomery said this decision is part of a long-term development plan for Mailloux, who has struggled in his first four games. Kessel, who trained hard during the off-season, looks forward to stepping up, saying, “I’m looking forward to it a lot, ready to go.”

Montgomery emphasized the importance of Kessel’s gameplay, indicating they want him to be more aggressive in both offensive and defensive zones. Kessel aims to capitalize on this opportunity, asserting, “I think they just want me to be assertive in my game.”

As the team approaches the game against Dallas, they will also revert to their old uniforms, hoping for a spark that brings back some luck. This decision has already garnered attention on social media, where fans have reacted positively to the throwback look.

The puck drops at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday, promising to be an exciting game for both teams.
