OU Board Approves $450 Million Renovation of Memorial Stadium
NORMAN, Okla. — The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents has approved plans for a $450 million renovation of the west side of Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. This project, known as ‘The Palace Project,’ aims to modernize the stadium’s amenities and enhance the game-day experience for fans and student-athletes.
The renovation includes expanded concourses, additional gates for easier fan entry, improved seating options with extra ADA accommodations, upgraded restrooms, and new concession stands. University officials emphasized that the project also looks to generate revenue for OU Athletics.
New features will include a redesigned press box, 47 suites, and 64 loge boxes, which will seat approximately 280 guests. The renovation also aims to enhance the stadium’s lighting and sound systems to improve the overall atmosphere during games.
Construction is scheduled to start after the 2027 football season and is expected to finish before the start of the 2029 season. A stadium-wide reseating process will occur before the 2028 season, which will provide all season ticket holders with new options.
The renovation will result in a decrease of about 7,000 seats, a decision based on an analysis of seating demand and modern standards in college athletics facilities. However, officials reassured that every season ticket holder will maintain access to the stadium.
University leaders, including OU President Joseph Harroz Jr. and Vice President and Athletics Director Joe Castiglione, expressed their excitement about the renovations, describing the project as a significant step forward for Oklahoma Athletics.
According to the university, funding for the project will come solely from private donations, with no use of state funds, student tuition, or fees. This commitment to renovation reflects OU’s dedication to improving the experience for all who attend games.
