Bobby Portis Basketball Clinic Special Olympics Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Milwaukee Bucks and Gruber Law Offices hosted their seventh annual basketball clinic for Special Olympics Wisconsin on Saturday. Sixty participants rotated through four different clinics, eager to learn and play.

It was a special day for Jerry Halboth, who has been involved with Special Olympics since 1996 but played with the Bucks for the first time. “I figured it would be a good way to meet new friends, get involved with the community, and gain experience and knowledge,” Halboth said.

Wisconsin Bucks forward Bobby Portis Jr. was among those supporting the event. He expressed, “We want to support the people that support us the most. Playing in this community for five years has opened my eyes up to much more than just basketball.” Portis emphasized the importance of inclusivity in the event, stating, “Basketball is just a small portion of what we do.”

Chad Hershner from Special Olympics Wisconsin spoke on the event’s mission, saying, “We’re all about inclusion and breaking down stigma. Tonight, everyone is equal and valued for who they are.”

David Gruber of Gruber Law Offices shared his excitement for the annual event, calling it a privilege. “As the evening goes on, you’ll see an awful lot of smiles on people’s faces,” he said.

The event brought together athletes, families, and the community, showcasing the joy of partnership and inclusion.
