Passengers scheduled to fly from Bermuda to London over the weekend were forced to evacuate their plane following a bomb threat received by authorities at LF Wade International Airport.

The incident occurred on Sunday night at 8.50pm, prompting the evacuation of passengers from the aircraft.

Local roads were closed off to traffic while airport security conducted a thorough search of the airport premises and surrounding areas, as per a Bermuda Police Service spokesperson.

The authorities were alerted to the bomb threat via email, leading them to implement emergency landing protocols at the airport.

After the airport was deemed safe and the all-clear was given, normal operations were resumed, ensuring the safety of all passengers and staff.

British Airways, the airline operating the London-bound flight, assured that passenger safety is their top priority and that standard procedures were followed to disembark the aircraft.

The passengers were accommodated overnight, with support provided for overnight stays, meals, and transportation arrangements, as the flight was rescheduled to depart for London on Monday evening.

Efforts are ongoing to assist the affected passengers as the investigation into the bomb threat continues, with updates expected from the Bermuda Police Service in due course.
