Excitement is building for the upcoming 2024 Boots and Hearts Barn Burner Charity Hockey Game set to take place in Barrie. The official launch of this highly anticipated event happened at Burls Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte, heralding the hockey match scheduled for August 7 at Sadlon Arena.

Barrie’s Mayor, Alex Nuttall, expressed optimism that this year’s fundraiser would surpass the impressive $276,000 raised last year. He announced that the event has already sold 2,200 advance tickets and is well on its way to being sold out.

NHL players Isaak Phillips from the Chicago Blackhawks, Quinton Byfield from the Los Angeles Kings, and Chris Tierney from the New Jersey Devils were present at the official launch event. Tierney, who resides in Bradford, shared his enthusiasm, stating that the charity game is a highlight in his summer calendar each year.

According to Oro-Medonte Township Mayor Randy Greenlaw, the charity hockey game aims to generate funds for the less fortunate within the community. Nuttall reflected on the event’s growth since its inception in 2018, where it raised $98,000. To date, the game has raised over $2 million, benefiting institutions such as the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), various Rotary Clubs, PIE Education, the John Tavares Foundation, Easter Seals, and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Interested attendees can purchase tickets starting at $25 through the Rotary Clubs of Barrie, Barrie-Huronia Rotary, and Kempenfelt Rotary, or via TicketPro from June 11th onwards. For more details and ticket purchases, individuals can visit the event’s official website.
