Eddie Rosario Atlanta Braves Outfielder

Atlanta, GA (May 9, 2025) — The Atlanta Braves have designated outfielder Eddie Rosario for assignment, the team announced Friday. Rosario, who recently rejoined the Braves on April 28, played in only three games during his latest stint, finishing with no hits in four at-bats.

Rosario’s last appearance for Atlanta was as a pinch-hitter in a 4-3 loss against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday at Truist Park. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, he struck out, sealing the defeat for the Braves.

During his brief time this season, the 33-year-old veteran struggled offensively, tallying two strikeouts and no hits in limited opportunities. His recent performance adds to a challenging season, where he has only one hit in eight plate appearances across multiple stints with both Atlanta and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Rosario’s history with the Braves includes a memorable 2021 season when he joined the team mid-year and played a crucial role in their World Series victory. However, his overall batting average while with the Braves has been a modest .235 with limited contributions. The Braves acquired him from the Cleveland Guardians during the 2021 trade deadline, and he re-signed with the team after his successful postseason run.

In a corresponding move, infielder Luke Williams has been called up from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Rosario’s place on the roster. Williams is returning to the major leagues after struggling this season in Gwinnett, where he posted a batting average of .132. He brings an opportunity for the Braves to utilize a faster player on the field, with a sprint speed that exceeds Rosario’s.

Many fans and analysts have raised questions regarding the decision to designate Rosario, especially given that he had been a key player in past seasons. The front office will have a week to resolve Rosario’s status, likely leading to his release or an outright assignment.

Rosario’s journey with the Braves may have come to a close, but his impact during the 2021 championship season remains a significant part of team history.
