Brazil‘s national football team is seeking a turnaround in their World Cup Qualifying campaign as they prepare to face Chile in Santiago. The South American team currently occupies the fifth position in their CONMEBOL group after securing three wins and suffering four defeats in eight qualifying matches. This performance has sparked concern among fans and players alike.

“It’s worrying because of the position we are in and what the fans expect from us,” remarked an unnamed player ahead of the crucial Thursday qualifier. The player emphasized the urgency of the situation, asserting, “The time has come. It’s a very good moment for all the players to really show what Brazil is, where we deserve to be. We’re going to work as long as we have to and get the three points and climb the rankings.”

Brazil’s squad has been hampered by injuries, including the absence of their all-time top scorer who is recovering from a knee ligament injury. Forward injury woes continue with key players like Botafogo‘s and Atletico Mineiro‘s not in full fitness. A statement from Savinho, a prominent team member, conveys a sense of collective responsibility. “Everyone that was called up has in mind to do this, to make Brazil win again games,” he noted, adding that all players need to take responsibility and contribute on the field.

Manager Dorival has announced that Botafogo forward and left-back Igor will start in the Santiago match, marking their debut for the national team. “Abner and Igor start the match,” Dorival confirmed during a news conference. He expressed confidence in their abilities, stating, “I don’t think they have to see this as a burden or as a complication in addition to the natural responsibility of wearing a shirt like the national team that carries weight.”

The Brazilian team is gearing up for two crucial matches, starting with Chile and followed by a home fixture against an undisclosed opponent on October 15. The stakes are high as the top six nations in the CONMEBOL qualifying stage will earn direct entry to the 2026 World Cup, while the seventh-placed team faces a playoff round.
