Brazilian Fighters Headline UFC Seattle with Promising Matchups

SEATTLE, Washington – Brazilian fighters Jean Matsumoto and Jean Silva are set to showcase their talents at UFC Seattle on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Both fighters are part of the main card, aiming to continue their impressive runs in the UFC under the leadership of Dana White.
The youngest of the duo, 25-year-old Matsumoto is undefeated in his professional MMA career, boasting a striking record of 16 wins, zero losses. Originally scheduled to face Chris Gutierrez at UFC 313, Matsumoto received the opportunity to replace former champion Dominick Cruz and face Rob Font, currently ranked ninth in the bantamweight division (135 lbs). This match marks a significant step for Matsumoto, who has already secured two victories in the UFC, and a win could catapult him into the top 15 of the rankings.
“This is a golden opportunity for me,” Matsumoto said. “I plan to seize this chance and show that I belong among the best in the division.”
Jean Silva, 28, has had an impressive 2024, achieving three knockout victories in his debut UFC season. Fighting in the featherweight division (145 lbs), Silva faces Melsik Baghdasaryan, seeking his fourth consecutive win. Known for his unique personality and striking in-cage performance, Silva has quickly won over fans, exemplified when he humorously barked into the microphone after a previous victory.
“I bring excitement every time I step into the Octagon,” Silva said. “I aim to give the fans a show and keep my momentum going.”
In addition to Matsumoto and Silva, two other Brazilian fighters – Raffael Cerqueira and Melk Costa – will compete in the preliminary bouts against Modestas Bukauskas and Andre Fili respectively. The main event features a matchup between American Henry Cejudo and Chinese fighter Song Yadong, further highlighting a night of competitive fights.
This event marks the UFC’s return to Seattle since 2013, with fans eager for live action. The fights will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass starting at 8 p.m. local time, with the main card beginning at 11 p.m.
Cejudo, a former champion, is looking to rebound from two consecutive losses and reclaim his standing in the bantamweight division. Meanwhile, Yadong aims to break into the top tier of contenders after gaining experience since joining the UFC in 2017.
The atmosphere in Seattle is charged with anticipation as Brazilian talent takes center stage in a new chapter of UFC history.
