Buffalo Sabres Trade Casey Mittelstadt To Colorado Avalanche For Bowen Byram

The Buffalo Sabres have made a significant move in the NHL trade market by sending forward Casey Mittelstadt to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defenceman Bowen Byram.

Mittelstadt, a talented 25-year-old, has showcased his skills with 14 goals and 33 assists in 62 games this season, marking his seventh year in the league. Hailing from Eden Prairie, MN, Mittelstadt was first drafted eighth overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and has amassed a total of 62 goals and 124 assists in his 339-game career. He is currently set to become a restricted free agent once the season concludes.

On the other side of the trade, Bowen Byram, a 22-year-old defenceman from Cranbrook, BC, joins the Sabres after a successful stint with the Avalanche. Byram has notched eight goals and 12 assists in 55 games this season, logging an average of 19 minutes and 51 seconds of ice time per game. Selected fourth overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft from the Vancouver Giants, Byram has accumulated 23 goals and 40 assists in his 146-game career. He was also part of the Avalanche’s Stanley Cup-winning team in 2022 and clinched gold with Canada at the 2020 World Juniors in the Czech Republic.
