WASHINGTON, D.C. — Fox News host Jesse Watters has ignited controversy with remarks suggesting that the United States should forcibly remove Palestinians from their land. During a recent episode of Fox’s ‘The Five,’ Watters claimed that the Palestinian population’s birthrate poses a demographic ‘threat’ to Israel.
His comments came in the context of President Donald Trump’s statements about the U.S. taking ownership of Gaza and resettling its residents elsewhere. Trump declared, ‘We’re going to take Gaza. We don’t have to buy. There’s nothing to buy.’ These remarks have been widely condemned as advocating for the mass displacement of Palestinians.
Watters defended his position, asserting that ‘the average Palestinian woman has five and a half babies,’ while ‘the average Israeli woman has only two and a half.’ He continued, stating, ‘So demographically, they’re a threat.’ Critics were quick to denounce his rhetoric as reminiscent of racist ideologies. Zeteo founder Mehdi Hasan said, ‘There is no one, no one, on American television who speaks in a more racist and genocidal way about Palestinians than Jesse Watters.’
In light of the growing tensions, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a stark warning to Hamas, stating that if hostages are not released by Saturday, ‘the gates of hell will open on them.’ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed these sentiments, indicating that military operations would escalate if demands for hostage release were unmet.
As hostilities in the region intensify, many fear a return to conflict. Hamas has accused Israel of breaching ceasefire agreements, which included the release of hostages and humanitarian aid provisions. So far, 21 hostages have been freed since the ceasefire began, with 76 still believed to be held.
Katz’s comments reflect a broader sentiment among Israeli officials, who view the hostage situation as critical. He remarked, ‘If Hamas stops releasing the hostages, then there is no agreement and there is war.’ The fear is palpable in Gaza ahead of the potential for renewed conflict amidst ongoing humanitarian crises.
Adding to the complexity, King Abdullah II of Jordan has vocally opposed Trump’s plans for the Gaza population, affirming the country’s ‘steadfast position’ against mass displacement. Abdullah offered to assist with up to 2,000 children needing medical treatment but condemned any forced removals, stating it is against the ‘unified Arab position.’
Political analysts have noted that Trump’s proposals for resettlement reflect an ongoing issue in the region regarding the rights and dignity of Palestinians. Khalil Sayegh commented, ‘The only population in the world that you can talk about with such hate is the Palestinian people.’
The fallout from Watters’ remarks also extends into social media, where public backlash continues to mount. Users have criticized his comments as unhinged and reflective of extremist ideologies. Activists argue that this rhetoric only widens the gap between communities and deepens existing hostilities.
As the deadline for hostage releases approaches, all eyes remain on Israel, Hamas, and U.S. officials to see how this high-tension situation unfolds. The potential for renewed conflict looms as negotiations continue to develop.
