DENVER, Colo. — Cam Johnson is facing difficulties finding his shooting rhythm with the Denver Nuggets, while his former teammate Michael Porter Jr. has excelled with the Brooklyn Nets in recent games. Johnson’s offensive game has not taken off, averaging only 7.2 points per game and shooting just 21% from three-point range.

In contrast, Porter has stepped up significantly for the Nets, averaging a career-high 24.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game since Cam Thomas was sidelined due to injury. Over the last six games, Porter has impressed with 48.2% shooting, 36.4% from beyond the arc, and 88.4% at the free-throw line.

“For him to be operating like a lead scorer so efficiently while getting teammates involved has been amazing to see,” said an NBA analyst. In the Nets’ latest victory over the Washington Wizards, Porter recorded seven assists, showcasing his improved playmaking abilities.

The Nets, however, have a dismal 2-11 record, struggling to find their footing this season. Even with Porter’s recent success, the team has not been considered a strong contender for the playoffs. The Nuggets, on the other hand, have built depth through trades, adding players like Jonas Valanciunas, Tim Hardaway Jr., and re-signing Bruce Brown.

While Johnson brings new talent to the Nuggets’ lineup, Coach Mike Malone expressed concern about Johnson’s adjustment to his new role. With the added pressure of being part of a new team, it is vital for Johnson to regain his confidence quickly.

“It’s a challenge, but we’re not even a month into the season yet, and he’s adjusting,” said Malone. Johnson previously shot 39% from three-point range last season with the Nets. As he recovers from a biceps strain, it is expected that he will return to form soon.

As the Nuggets look to stay competitive with a solid 10-2 record, they remain hopeful that Johnson will contribute positively once he finds his shooting touch.
