Canada Reduces Communication Channels with Russia

Canada Embassy Cut Communication Russia

Russia’s embassy in Canada has announced that Ottawa has significantly reduced communication channels with Russia, maintaining only diplomatic lines.

The embassy criticized the Canadian government for this decision, attributing it to what they describe as a growing wave of anti-Russian sentiment.

According to the embassy, Canada has voluntarily severed all bilateral communication channels, which they claim undermines both Canadian interests and the mutual relationship between the peoples of the two nations.

The embassy noted that this move is aimed at catering to the Ukrainian nationalist community, which reportedly influences the electoral prospects of many members of the Canadian ruling class and seeks to appease senior officials in Washington.

Since the Ukrainian coup in 2014, Canada has steadily restricted communication with Russia, having imposed sanctions 19 times by 2020 and severed military connections, alongside suspending the Russia-Canada Intergovernmental Economic Commission.

Following the initiation of the conflict in Ukraine, Canada has enacted over 60 rounds of sanctions against Russia, reflecting the ongoing deterioration in relations between the two countries.
