Cardinals’ Zay Jones Faces Injury Setback Amid Seahawks Defeat
GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals faced a tough blow in their game against the Seattle Seahawks, trailing 38-7 in the second quarter of Week 10.
Wide receiver Zay Jones, who was expected to play a vital role this season, has been ruled out with a significant injury that resembles an Achilles tear. Jones had initially attempted to walk after the injury occurred but was later taken off the field on a cart.
Simi Fehoko stepped in to replace Jones as the Cardinals now deal with a growing list of injuries. Garrett Williams and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson also exited the game due to injuries, adding to the team’s struggles.
Jones, who returned to the Cardinals ahead of the 2024 season, was praised for his veteran presence in a young wide receiver group. He expressed gratitude for the support from coaches and teammates when he made his comeback to Arizona.
“It’s beautiful to have support from not only your coaches but your peers,” Jones said. “It carries a lot of weight.”
Before his injury, Jones had established himself in the lineup with 12 receptions for 183 yards this season. He was viewed as a versatile player, capable of fitting into various roles on the field. Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon had highlighted Jones’ strengths, noting his ability to make contested catches.
“He does his job. He’s in the right spot. He can play three spots. He’s fast and he’s explosive,” Gannon said previously.
Heading into the Week 10 matchup, Gannon was optimistic about his team’s offensive performance. “We’re doing the things that are needed to move the ball, stay on the field and score points,” he said. However, he acknowledged that facing the Seahawks, particularly with their strong defense, presents a significant challenge.
As the Cardinals continue the game without Jones and dealing with other injuries, their chances of turning the tide against the Seahawks have become increasingly difficult.
