Carlos Alcaraz Set to Meet Zizou Bergs in Tokyo Quarterfinals

Tokyo, Japan — Carlos Alcaraz, ranked number one in the world, will return to the court on Saturday to face off against Zizou Bergs in the quarterfinals of the Japan Open. Both players are looking to secure a spot in the semifinals following their victories in earlier rounds.
Alcaraz, who sprained his ankle in a match against Sebastian Baez, showed resilience by defeating Baez 6-4, 6-2 in the second round. After a day off, he is expected to compete at full strength when he meets Bergs, who ranks 45th. Alcaraz boasts an impressive record of 48 wins and just 3 losses in his last 51 matches, including two Grand Slam titles this year: the French Open and the U.S. Open.
Bergs, however, has struggled recently, holding a poor 3-11 record in his last 14 matches before arriving in Tokyo. He secured his second-round berth with a hard-fought victory over Alejandro Tabilo, winning 1-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(4). The pressure is on Bergs as he faces one of the toughest competitors on the circuit.
In another match, American Jenson Brooksby will take on Luciano Darderi. This is the first meeting between the two players. Darderi, ranked 30th, has been on fire since Wimbledon, winning back-to-back clay-court titles. He won his Tokyo opener against Yoshihito Nishioka 7-6(9), 6-3.
Brooksby, currently ranked 86th, is also looking sharp, having advanced two rounds at the Cincinnati Masters and scoring a tight victory against Ugo Humbert in his Tokyo debut, 7-6(4), 6-3.
As both matches heat up, Alcaraz is predicted to dominate against Bergs. Meanwhile, Brooksby is expected to have the upper hand over Darderi on the hard court.
