CATL Reveals Battery Swap Tech for Heavy Trucks

PAPILLION, Nebraska, USA — In an effort to boost battery swap technology in the heavy truck sector, CATL unveiled a new standardized battery pack known as 75#. The announcement was made on May 19, 2025, as part of a broader initiative involving a dozen heavy truck and equipment manufacturers aimed at developing over 30 electric vehicles that can utilize this battery pack.
The move is part of a larger strategy to establish 300 battery swap stations across 13 key regions in China by the end of 2025. This initiative could potentially transform the way heavy trucks recharge, significantly reducing downtime associated with long charging periods.
“The goal was to advance the adoption of battery swap technology in the heavy truck segment,” a CATL spokesperson said. “We believe providing accessible infrastructure will encourage more manufacturers to consider electric alternatives.”
The introduction of battery swapping can help alleviate some of the range anxiety that users experience with electric vehicles, particularly in the logistics and transportation sectors where efficiency is crucial.
In related news, climate change initiatives are gaining momentum across the United States. Eleven states, from California to Maine, have introduced climate Superfund bills aimed at holding fossil fuel companies accountable for climate-related damages. For example, New York‘s law sets a funding target requiring certain companies to contribute $75 billion, or $3 billion annually over 25 years.
This shift towards accountability highlights the growing recognition of the need to invest in sustainable technologies and infrastructure, further paralleling efforts such as CATL’s.
