CBS Delays ‘Hollywood Squares’ Reboot Due to LA Wildfires
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — CBS has postponed the premiere of its rebooted game show “Hollywood Squares” due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The show, originally scheduled to debut earlier this week, will now air its first episode on Thursday, January 16, at 8 p.m. ET.
The network has strategically rescheduled the second episode to follow the NFL AFC Divisional Playoff game between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills on Sunday, January 19, at approximately 10 p.m. ET. The show will then move to its regular time slot on Wednesday, January 29, at 10 p.m. ET as part of CBS’s “Game Night” lineup.
Hosted by Nate Burleson, co-host of “CBS This Morning” and “The NFL Today,” the reboot features Drew Barrymore as the center square. The show retains its classic format, where contestants judge the accuracy of celebrity answers to win squares and complete a tic-tac-toe pattern. Celebrities participating in the reboot include Tyra Banks, Julie Bowen, Yvette Nicole Brown, Whitney Cummings, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Tiffany Haddish, and Jay Leno, among others.
“CBS Game Night” will also feature “The Price is Right at Night” at 8 p.m. ET and “Raid the Cage,” hosted by Damon Wayans Jr., at 9 p.m. ET. The network aims to capitalize on the popularity of game shows and sports programming to attract a broad audience.
Marc Berman, a New York-based media reporter, noted that the delay and rescheduling are part of CBS’s strategy to maximize viewership. “By aligning the show with high-profile events like the NFL playoffs, CBS is ensuring that ‘Hollywood Squares’ gets the attention it deserves,” Berman said.
The wildfires in Los Angeles have disrupted numerous events and productions, prompting networks to adjust their schedules. CBS’s decision to delay the premiere reflects the ongoing challenges posed by the natural disaster.
