BOSTON, MassachusettsJordan Walsh, the 19-year-old forward drafted 38th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2023 NBA Draft, has started to show significant improvement in his game. After initially being regarded as a project player, Walsh’s recent performances indicate a growing maturity and understanding of the game.

In a recent game against the Orlando Magic on November 10, Walsh played a career-high 26 minutes, contributing crucial points and defensive plays that helped secure a 111-107 victory for the Celtics. Walsh’s standout moment came when he hit a three-pointer with 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter, sealing the win for his team. “At first I was thinking Jaylen’s going to shoot this, so let me go get a rebound,” Walsh said about the play. “But then I saw P (Payton Pritchard) might pass it to me.”

Walsh’s improvement has been evident over the last three games, where he actively participated in the rotation. He has demonstrated his athleticism through effective offensive rebounds and key defensive plays. This development came after extensive work in the summer, focusing on blending into the team’s system, even when he doesn’t have the ball.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla has praised Walsh for his tireless work ethic, stressing the importance of urgency in a young player’s development. “He’s played like his basketball life is on the line,” Mazzulla noted, drawing attention to Walsh’s consistent effort and positive body language even while he was out of the rotation earlier in the season.

Walsh’s emergence comes at a time when the Celtics are looking to strengthen their roster depth. Alongside teammates Hugo Gonzalez and Josh Minott, Walsh contributes to a young, athletic wing rotation that helps ease the defensive load on established stars like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

While Walsh’s recent success is promising, it’s important to remember that the season is still young. As he continues to find his rhythm, the Celtics hope his progress will translate into sustained contributions. With every strong performance, Walsh solidifies his role on the team and could potentially reshape the dynamics of Boston‘s bench for the season.
