Boston Celtics Players Celebrating Win

BOSTON—The Boston Celtics secured a thrilling 128-118 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers Wednesday night, showcasing an impressive performance despite missing three starters, including Jayson Tatum.

Payton Pritchard and Derrick White etched their names in NBA history by becoming the first two teammates to each score over 40 points in a single game while also making at least nine 3-pointers.

Pritchard led with a career-high 43 points, netting 10 of 16 from beyond the arc. White contributed a career-high 41 points and shot 9 of 17 from 3-point range, further solidifying the Celtics’ status as a championship contender.

“Tonight was fun, but we know what the bigger picture is and we know what we’re working for,” White said. “Whatever the team needs, I gotta do it and just help us win games.”

Entering the game, the Celtics were coming off a stretch that saw their roster impacted by injuries. The absence of Tatum, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porzingis put the spotlight on role players like Walsh, who received significant minutes due to the depleted lineup.

“Just with guys out, opportunity is there,” said Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla. He praised Walsh’s defensive skills, noting, “We needed someone who could offensive rebound. He’s really gotten better at that.” Walsh played a season-high 20 minutes, making his first 3-point shot since January 22.

The performance earned Walsh plenty of praise, especially as Boston faces a busy stretch of games, including a back-to-back matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday.

Despite being down three starters, the Celtics displayed remarkable depth. Portland made a late push, cutting Boston’s 25-point lead to eight with three minutes left, but the Celtics held steady to secure their second consecutive win.

“What I was most impressed with is Payton and Derrick just continuing to trust the team,” said Al Horford. “They had a good balance of when to shoot, when to pass. That’s pretty unique.”

The game also highlighted Boston’s strategic approach to the season, where player rest is prioritized while maintaining competitiveness. As they prepare for the upcoming game against the 76ers, the Celtics are looking to sustain their momentum and push for their second consecutive title.
