Chad Powers Disney Plus Comedy Series

LOS ANGELES, CA – Actor and rising star Powell has taken an unexpected turn in his career, stepping away from blockbuster films to star in a comedy series titled ‘Chad Powers.’ The show, premiering on Disney+ on September 30, follows the misadventures of an American football player with a troubled past.

Powell plays the title role of Chad Powers, a southern college footballer characterized by his good nature and eccentric social awkwardness. Described by one character as ‘a sweet, possibly inbred folk hero,’ Chad is the alter ego of Russ Holliday, a disgraced athlete infamous for his braggadocio and a major sports blunder.

In the series, Holliday, desperate to revive his career after a humiliating defeat, disguises himself as Chad. The transformation is essential for his comeback, as he sheds the baggage of his scandalous reputation. ‘Chad Powers’ addresses Holliday’s journey of self-discovery and redemption while maintaining a comedic tone.

The character originated from a segment by former NFL player Eli Manning on his ESPN show ‘Eli’s Places,’ where he donned heavy prosthetics. co-creator Michael Waldron, known for ‘Rick and Morty‘ and ‘Loki,’ helps craft a narrative filled with outrageous humor and heart.

A standout aspect of the show is Chad’s unlikely alliance with the South Georgia University Catfish mascot, voiced by Frankie A. Rodriguez, who shares honest advice while navigating his own insecurities. The dynamic among the characters leads to moments that are both silly and sincere.

Additional cast members include Jake Hudson, the frazzled coach, and his daughter Ricky, played by Perry Mattfeld. Their interactions are marked by humorous situations, including a scene where Chad avoids bathing to feign a medical condition.

Even with its absurd moments, ‘Chad Powers’ works due to its emotional depth. Zahn’s portrayal of a man striving to save his marriage adds genuine weight to the comedic narrative. This mixture of humor and heartfelt scenes makes the show stand out among typical comedies.

The series challenges viewers to appreciate the blend of comedy and deeper themes, with Powell’s performance indicating a promising future in a new genre. ‘Chad Powers’ could very well signal a fresh direction for the actor and defy stereotypical portrayals in Hollywood.
