Chet Holmgren Stars in Thunder’s Crucial Win over Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS — Chet Holmgren, a native of Minneapolis, played a key role in the Oklahoma City Thunder‘s 114-102 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night, securing control of the Western Conference finals.
Holmgren, who won three state championships at the Target Center as a student at Minnehaha Academy, showcased his skills at his home court again. He scored 21 points, hit three-pointers, and demonstrated defensive prowess with three blocked shots, including a crucial one with just 39 seconds left in the game.
“Just trying to have fingerprints on the game,” Holmgren stated. His performance proved instrumental as the Thunder took a 3-1 series lead, putting the Timberwolves on the brink of elimination ahead of Game 5 on Wednesday in Oklahoma City.
“Chet was a monster,” said Thunder Coach Mark Daigneault. League MVP guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander praised Holmgren as a “winning player” in a night where the stakes were high. Holmgren contributed not only offensively but also defensively, grabbing seven rebounds and making one assist in 33 minutes of play.
“He affects the game at such a high level… He’s just out there playing off feel,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.
Holmgren’s return to Minneapolis has drawn attention, especially as fans recall his remarkable journey as a prep star. Despite experiencing some pressure last game, he bounced back with a performance that exemplified his growth as an athlete. “It was great to be able to bounce back… and come away with a win, which is the most important thing,” Holmgren noted.
With his versatility and skill set, Holmgren continues to be a unique player at 7-1, averaging both guard and center abilities that make him a challenging matchup for opponents. As the Thunder advance in the playoffs, Holmgren aims to keep his focus on achieving team goals.
