KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Kansas City Chiefs‘ offensive line, a source of strength this season, faces uncertainty as they prepare for Week 6 against the Detroit Lions.

Star left tackle Josh Simmons, the team’s first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has been designated as doubtful for Sunday night’s game. This unexpected news comes just before kickoff, with reports indicating that Simmons may miss the game due to personal reasons, not an injury.

NFL reporter Ian Rapoport noted that Simmons’s absence is a surprise for the organization. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN later confirmed Simmons is unlikely to play, leaving the Chiefs with a gap in their offensive protection.

Simmons was expected to shore up the left tackle position since being drafted at No. 32 overall. He quickly secured a starting role after joining the team early in the summer, despite previous concerns about a knee injury that ended his college career prematurely.

In Simmons’s potential absence, Jaylon Moore is expected to step in as a starter for the Chiefs. Moore was signed as a free agent after previously serving as a backup for the San Francisco 49ers. His experience and ability to play on either side of the line provide a vital backup plan for Kansas City.

The Chiefs have had to juggle numerous players at left tackle in previous seasons, but Simmons’s consistency this year has been promising, making his potential absence even more significant. General Manager Brett Veach emphasized his appreciation for Moore’s skills, given his experience behind veteran Trent Williams in San Francisco.

If Simmons does not suit up, the Chiefs will need to rely on Moore’s abilities and adaptability as they look to maintain their momentum in a crucial matchup against the Lions.
