Cincinnati Bengals Part Ways With Joe Mixon, Sign Zack Moss As Replacement

The Cincinnati Bengals made a significant move in their running back position by parting ways with Joe Mixon after a seven-year tenure. The decision to release Mixon was followed by the signing of Zack Moss, who previously played for the Indianapolis Colts, to a two-year contract worth $8 million. The news was reported by NFL Network Insiders Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero on Tuesday night.

Mixon’s departure from the Bengals comes after a successful career that included a Super Bowl LVI appearance and a Pro Bowl selection in the 2021 season. With his release, the Bengals cleared $6.1 million in salary cap space, which they utilized to secure Zack Moss.

Zack Moss, aged 26, is coming off a standout season with the Indianapolis Colts where he showcased his skills with 794 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Previously with the Buffalo Bills, Moss is set to bring his dynamic playing style to the Bengals.

The decision to release Mixon, who had been a significant contributor to the Bengals, now opens the door for Moss to fill the running back role. Mixon’s on-field performance has impressed fans and critics alike, ranking among the top players in Bengals franchise history in various categories.

Head Coach Zac Taylor expressed gratitude towards Mixon, emphasizing his past contributions and durability on the field. Mixon leaves behind a legacy in Cincinnati, ranking third in franchise rushing yards and holding multiple records.

This move marks a significant transition for the Bengals backfield, as they turn to Moss to provide a fresh perspective and boost their running game. Moss’ recent success in the NFL positions him as a promising addition to the Bengals’ roster.
