San Diego Wave Fc Vs Club América Femenil

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – In a tightly contested match, Club América Femenil edged out San Diego Wave FC with a 1-0 victory in Group B of the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup. The match took place at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, on Wednesday.

Sara Luebbert, a key player for Club América, played a crucial role in the game’s turning point. In the 23rd minute, Luebbert drew a foul from San Diego’s goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan just outside the box. Sheridan’s subsequent red card left the Wave with ten players for the remainder of the match.

Following the red card, San Diego made a strategic substitution, with Mya Jones exiting for goalkeeper Hillary Beall. Despite being a player down, San Diego managed to hold Club América to a scoreless stalemate through halftime.

The deadlock was broken in the 59th minute when Luebbert capitalized on a rebound in the box, delivering what would ultimately be the match-winning goal for Club América.

San Diego Wave FC made several attempts to equalize in the final minutes but were unable to find the net. The defeat relegated them to third place in Group B, as all top three teams ended with identical records of 3-0-1, and points differences made the difference.

With this victory, Club América Femenil clinched the top spot in Group B and advanced to the Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals. The Portland Thorns, having secured their place in the Finals earlier, finished second in the group.
