Coco Gauff’s Rise Reshaped by Innovative Coach Matt Daly

Los Angeles, CA – Coco Gauff has made headlines in women’s tennis after a strong comeback following a tough 2024 season. After being eliminated in the fourth round of the US Open last September, she chose to part ways with her former coach, Brad Gilbert, and team up with renowned coach Matt Daly.
Daly, who collaborates with JC Farrell, has brought new strategies to Gauff’s game. Since their partnership began, the young American has won both the China Open and WTA Finals titles in 2024, securing her position as world No. 2 in the WTA Rankings.
In the 2025 season, though Gauff faced some challenges, including double faults, her collaboration with Daly has been a source of strength. She reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and has posted solid performances in Madrid and Rome.
Daly’s journey began at the University of Notre Dame, where he played as the team’s No. 1 player. He has since coached notable players like former world No. 4 James Blake and current ATP Tour star Denis Shapovalov.
One key development from Daly’s coaching is Grip MD, a training tool designed with former ATP doubles star Mark Merklein. This device helps improve players’ footwork and grip technique, which is crucial for optimal performance.
The partnership has focused on refining Gauff’s serve and forehand, addressing specific technical issues she faced. Gauff aims to further enhance her skills under Daly’s guidance.
As the grass-court season approaches, Gauff’s determination remains strong, and with Daly’s expertise, the duo is set to pursue additional Grand Slam victories.
