Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has cautioned Chelsea‘s Cole Palmer about Liverpool‘s aggressive approach ahead of their match at Anfield following the international break. This matchup comes as Chelsea face a string of demanding fixtures that will test their mettle under manager Enzo Maresca. Currently positioned fourth in the table with 14 points from seven games, Chelsea’s forthcoming matches include Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United, and Arsenal.

Chelsea has shown promise under Maresca, recording impressive results early in the season. However, the encounter against Liverpool is expected to be Chelsea’s biggest challenge yet, while the Reds are also preparing to measure their progress with this fixture. Liverpool has had a strong start, leading the league standings with 18 points, narrowly surpassing both Manchester City and Arsenal by one point.

Reflecting on Chelsea’s upcoming challenge, Neville commented on the unique difficulties posed by playing at Anfield, a ground famously known for its intimidating atmosphere. He specifically highlighted the challenges Palmer might face in terms of space and pressure on the ball. “I always think that Anfield is the toughest place to get space,” Neville mentioned. “And you think about how Cole Palmer plays, and the way he always looks like he’s got time on the ball, it’ll be interesting to see how he does at Anfield and how Liverpool will attend to him.”

Neville predicted a confrontational game from Liverpool, aiming to disrupt Palmer’s flow early on. “[They will] be really aggressive against him and test him. They won’t want to let him have any joy in the game and encouragement early on,” he added.

Despite the anticipated challenges, Palmer has made an outstanding start to the season, with six goals and five assists over seven games. Chelsea hopes that his performance continues to shine against Liverpool, as a victory would significantly boost their standing and confidence in the league.
