2025 College Basketball Crown Begins in Las Vegas Amid High Stakes

LAS VEGAS, NV — The inaugural College Basketball Crown tournament kicks off Monday, March 31, with 16 teams vying for the championship at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. This new event promises thrilling matchups and showcases some of the brightest stars in college basketball.
The tournament includes prominent teams such as Villanova, Colorado, and Georgetown, with an elite lineup of players ready to shine. Among the top contenders is Butler forward Brooks, who has evolved into a key player after transferring from Michigan State, averaging 15.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
“Playing consistently at this level has really helped me grow,” Brooks said after a season highlight where he scored 30 points against Georgetown. “I’m excited for the challenges the tournament will present.”
Another notable participant is Castro, a junior for the George Washington Revolutionaries. Standing at 6-foot-11, he poses a double-double threat, averaging 14.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, with 13 double-doubles this season.
Potential showdowns loom ahead, notably a possible match between Castro and Degenhart of Boise State, who has vice-triple double potential and averaged 17.9 points and 6.1 rebounds this season. Degenhart’s impressive run included 32 points in a vital win earlier this year.
The tournament’s top scorer is Dixon from Villanova, leading all NCAA Division I players with 23 points per game. He is on the verge of reaching 2,243 career points, just eight short of the program record. Dixon’s performance will be crucial as Villanova faces off against Colorado in a matchup that is generating much anticipation. “We’re ready to make a statement,” Dixon said ahead of the game.
Colorado, at 14-20 this season, is looking for redemption after struggling in the Big 12. The Buffaloes’ season has left them eager for postseason success, and they face a Villanova squad also eager to bounce back from less-than-stellar campaign.
The game will be aired on FS1, starting at 5:30 p.m. MT, giving fans nationwide a chance to see the matchup unfold. Kevin Kugler and Robbie Hummel will provide commentary from the court, offering insights into two teams desperate for success.
“Every game counts from here on out,” said Colorado coach, who added that finding ways to win and playing together will be imperative for the Buffaloes. “We’re facing a tough opponent, but we’re prepared.”
The College Basketball Crown consists of single-elimination brackets, culminating in a championship game on April 6 where the winning team receives a physical crown. Teams will battle it out over the next week, with excitement building as fans look forward to an unpredictable tournament.
Aside from expected heavyweights, underdog stories are poised to unfold, with many teams hoping to make a mark on college basketball history. “It’s an exciting opportunity for everyone involved,” said the tournament organizer. “We can’t wait to see how it all plays out.”
