INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts are relying on veteran kicker Michael Badgley as they navigate through player injuries in the ongoing NFL season. Badgley became the starting kicker following the injury of Spencer Shrader, who tore his ACL and MCL during an extra point attempt on October 5.

Since taking over, Badgley, 30, has shown resilience in high-pressure situations. In the Colts’ recent game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he made both of his field-goal attempts, connecting from 52 and 53 yards in the fourth quarter. This performance helped the Colts battle back from a 17-point deficit, although they ultimately lost 27-20.

Badgley’s steady performance has been critical for the 7-1 Colts. Before this season, he had a previous stint with Indianapolis, where he played 12 games in 2021. He has also played for the Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, and Chicago Bears throughout his NFL career.

Following Shrader’s injury, Badgley has successfully made all five of his field-goal attempts and is 14-for-15 on extra-point tries across four games. Colts head coach Shane Steichen praises Badgley’s ability to perform under pressure but emphasizes that he needs to continue to be consistent as the season progresses.

As Badgley settles into this pivotal role, he must meet the demands of the Colts’ high-stakes games. With Shrader out for the season, Badgley holds the key to his future with the team for the remainder of the year.
