Comedian Munya Chawawa to Dive into North Korea with New Documentary
Renowned comedian Munya Chawawa is set to embark on a riveting journey into the heart of North Korea with a new documentary project that will shed light on the enigmatic figure of Kim Jong-Un.
The BAFTA-nominated humorist, best known for his viral content and appearances on British television, is teaming up with the producers of Late Night Lycett for this daring endeavor that will take viewers on a captivating exploration of North Korea.
Chawawa will venture to the likes of Switzerland, Seoul, and suburban West London in ‘How to Survive a Dictator: North Korea,’ where he aims to unravel the mystery surrounding Kim Jong-Un.
The documentary will delve into the complexities of Kim’s rule, highlighting his unexpected interactions with prominent figures such as Donald Trump, Dennis Rodman, and Vladimir Putin, challenging the conventional narrative of the North Korean leader.
‘It’s been tricky to not feel a sense of ‘apocalypse anxiety’ recently and a lot of that stems from North Korea and Kim Jong Un, so doing this doc has not only been fascinating, but also given me a strange sense of closure,’ said Chawawa.
Chawawa’s previous work on ‘How to Survive a Dictator’ focused on Zimbabwe‘s Robert Mugabe, earning critical acclaim and a BAFTA nomination in the Specialist Factual category.
Channel 4‘s specialist factual chief Shaminder Nahal expressed anticipation for the project, stating, ‘In his utterly unique style, Munya Chawawa, along with the exceptional team from Rumpus led by Iain Wimbush, will explore the world of Kim Jong-Un in a surprising and compelling way.’
Former Rumpus executive Wimbush is serving as the executive producer of the documentary, collaborating with Morgan Roberts and preparing to launch his independent production company. Tomasz Frymorgan is onboard as the producer/director for the project.
