Connecticut Sun Secure Semifinal Spot After Sweeping Indiana Fever
The Connecticut Sun have successfully advanced to the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) semifinals for the sixth consecutive year, following their victory over the Indiana Fever. The Sun clinched the best-of-three First Round series with a win in Game 2, defeating the Fever 87-81 on Wednesday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.
In a tightly contested match, Alyssa Thomas led the Connecticut Sun’s efforts with an impressive performance, scoring 19 points and securing 13 rebounds over a full 40 minutes of play. Marina Mabrey contributed significantly to the Sun’s triumph, scoring 17 points, including eight crucial points during the fourth quarter. In total, five players from the Sun reached double figures in scoring, showcasing their collective strength and skill.
The Indiana Fever, despite ending their playoff run, displayed commendable resilience. Caitlin Clark, in her notable rookie season, concluded the game with 25 points, nine assists, and six rebounds—making history as the first rookie to achieve such a stat line in a WNBA playoff game. Aliyah Boston also delivered a strong performance for the Fever with 16 points and 19 rebounds, while Kelsey Mitchell added 17 points to the team’s tally.
The Fever managed to keep pace with the Sun throughout the game, even equalizing the score in the final minutes. However, critical baskets and strategic plays from the Sun prevented the Fever from taking the lead. The Sun’s defense proved too formidable for the Fever, particularly in the closing moments of the game, ensuring their victory and progression to the semifinals.
With this win, Connecticut awaits the outcome of the series between the Minnesota Lynx and Phoenix Mercury to determine their next opponent. The Sun’s journey in the playoffs continues as they pursue their quest for a championship.
