Could George Russell Join Aston Martin for F1 2026?

MONACO — Speculation surrounding George Russell‘s future in Formula 1 has intensified as the 2025 season progresses. With his contract with Mercedes set to expire at the end of the 2025 season, questions loom about whether he might be considering a move to Aston Martin.
Reports suggest that Aston Martin is interested in Russell, especially as the team undergoes significant changes, including new facilities and the hiring of renowned designer Adrian Newey. Russell has been seen interacting with team officials amid ongoing negotiations with Mercedes.
During the Monaco Grand Prix, Martin Brundle from Sky Sports highlighted the issue of Russell’s contract, implying Mercedes may be waiting for Red Bull driver Max Verstappen‘s decisions regarding his own contract before finalizing Russell’s future.
Mercedes’ Chief Communication Officer, Lord, pointed out there is no rush. “We manage George’s career, as well as being the team that he drives for at the moment, but we know there’s no pressure,” he said. He also mentioned that discussions will occur in due time, indicating a commitment to Russell’s development.
Despite the speculation, sources suggest that the longer negotiations with Mercedes drag on, the more opportunities may arise for Russell with other teams. As the season unfolds, attention will remain on the dynamics between Mercedes, Aston Martin, and Russell’s ambitions for the future.
