NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country music star Sam Hunt will not face charges following his arrest last week for alleged speeding and violating an interlock device, his representative confirmed Thursday.

The 40-year-old singer was arrested on Jan. 20 in Henderson County, Tennessee, after police claimed he was driving significantly over the speed limit. Records obtained by TMZ revealed Hunt was also accused of violating an interlock device, a car breathalyzer installed to prevent drunk driving. He was released the same day on $1,500 bond.

A spokesperson for Hunt told PEOPLE that his lawyer resolved the paperwork in court this week, and no charges will be filed. A speeding ticket was issued and will be paid, the representative added.

Hunt’s arrest comes more than five years after a 2019 DUI incident, which likely prompted the installation of the interlock device. In that case, Hunt was arrested for driving under the influence and possessing an open container after police responded to a report of a vehicle traveling the wrong way. His blood alcohol content at the time was .173, more than twice the legal limit.

In 2021, Hunt pleaded guilty to the DUI charges and was sentenced to 48 hours at the DUI Education Center, an alcohol safety course, and a one-year license suspension. His vehicle was required to have an interlock device until his license was reinstated.

Reflecting on the 2019 arrest in a 2020 interview, Hunt said, “It happened. People in my camp were talking about suppressing it, but why would I be afraid to talk about it? If it happens, it’s true. I was raised and taught to respect [alcohol]. Moderation is important.”

Hunt, known for his hit “Body Like a Back Road,” has amassed nearly 1 billion Spotify streams for the song. He has been nominated for five Grammy Awards but has yet to win. The singer married Hannah Lee Fowler in 2017, and the couple, who share two children, announced in November that they are expecting their third child.

Hunt expressed excitement about expanding his family during an appearance on Audacy’s Katie & Company podcast, saying, “It’s about to get real. I’m elated, can’t wait!” He also hinted at taking a break from touring in the coming years to spend more time with his family.

The Henderson Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the recent arrest.
