Cowboys Eye Contract Extension for Micah Parsons Amid Free Agency Talks

Irving, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly engaging in contract discussions with linebacker Micah Parsons amid ongoing negotiations regarding franchise tags for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa. According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys have initiated ‘general conversations’ with Parsons’ agent concerning a potential contract extension.
With Parsons poised to secure a new deal, expectations are high that he could become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Parsons has expressed his desire to reach an agreement promptly, hoping that a new contract will facilitate further team moves during the upcoming free agency period.
This past season, Parsons showcased his talent despite missing four games, finishing among the league leaders in sacks. He totaled 12 sacks, tying for fifth overall in the NFL and ranking first in the NFC. By achieving double-digit sacks for the fourth consecutive season, Parsons joined an elite group of players, including Pro Football Hall of Famers Dwight Freeney, Derrick Thomas, and Reggie White.
‘I want to get it done sooner rather than later. It’s important for me and the team,’ Parsons said in a recent interview. ‘If we can iron this out, it will help with our plans going into free agency.’
The urgency surrounding Parsons’ contract extension is compounded by the impending 2025 NFL free agency period, which officially opens at 4 p.m. ET on March 12. Two days prior, teams will enter the ‘legal tampering period,’ allowing negotiations with unrestricted free agents ahead of free agency’s official kickoff.
Failure to secure Parsons for the long term could spell disaster for the Cowboys, as he has become a cornerstone of their defense. As both sides move forward with discussions, fans and analysts alike await the outcome of these critical negotiations.
