Cowboys’ Jerry Jones Eyes Future Trades After Big Parsons Deal

Dallas, Texas – Dallas Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones confirmed he is open to further trades after making a significant deal involving linebacker Micah Parsons. On September 22, 2025, Jones traded Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks.
After the Cowboys suffered a 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears, Jones addressed questions about whether he would utilize the draft picks from the Parsons trade to acquire another impactful player. He emphasized that any decision would depend on the availability of a standout player on the trading block.
“If I had the opportunity to really do some good with those picks, I would do it,” Jones said. “That’s one of the advantages to making the trade.” He added that the Cowboys need to wait for the right trading opportunity and should not rush into a deal.
Despite the team’s disappointing start, with only one win in three games, Jones remains optimistic about the Cowboys’ playoff chances. He believes that improving their defense is crucial for their success this season and hinted that using the draft picks could contribute to addressing those gaps.
“We’ve got to get better defensively,” Jones stated. He mentioned that while the Cowboys currently lack a true elite pass rusher, securing a strong player could help strengthen their defense. Jones has repeatedly highlighted the importance of draft capital, noting that it offers flexibility in building a competitive team.
The Cowboys traded Parsons in the hopes of using the acquired draft picks to improve their roster. “There are two kinds of capital or currency in the NFL,” Jones said. “One of them is draft picks, and the other is financial. Having said that, Micah enabled us to have four, possibly as many as six players for the future.”
Jones’s assertive approach reflects his belief that even with a shaky start, the Cowboys can turn the season around. As they look ahead, the focus will be on whether they can find the right pieces to make a push for the playoffs in 2025, especially through strategic trades.
