OMAHA, Neb. – The No. 23 Creighton Bluejays are set to open their 2025-26 men’s basketball season this Wednesday, November 5, against the South Dakota Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. at CHI Health Center Omaha.

This highly anticipated matchup marks the Bluejays’ first regular-season contest after a strong exhibition performance where they defeated Colorado State, 76-64, on October 25. Eleven players scored in that game, demonstrating the team’s depth ahead of this season.

The Bluejays, returning key players and adding numerous talented newcomers, have been picked to finish third in the BIG EAST Conference. In the recently conducted poll, defending league champion St. John’s took first place with 97 points, followed closely by Connecticut with 94 points.

Creighton’s roster includes returning starters such as sophomore forward Arthur Kaluma, who has become a vital contributor and earned a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Notable newcomers include transfers Nick Graves and Trey Alexander, both of whom have strong scoring histories at their previous institutions.

This season opener is significant for head coach Greg McDermott, who will be seeking his 500th career win as a Division I head coach. Under McDermott, Creighton has won 20 or more games in each of the past ten seasons, showcasing consistent performance and competitiveness in the league.

In the 49 meetings between Creighton and South Dakota, the Bluejays hold a commanding 49-11 lead. This includes a dominant home record of 33-1. The last meeting between the two teams was a tight contest in 2014, but the Bluejays come into this game with significant momentum from their recent exhibition success.

Tickets for Wednesday’s game are available through the Creighton ticket office and online, with multiple giveaways planned for fans in attendance, including “Opening Flight” t-shirts for students. The contest will broadcast live on Peacock with a radio option available on 1620 AM and 101.9 FM.

The excitement around this matchup is palpable, as fans look forward to another engaging season of Creighton basketball.
