OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton Volleyball seniors Annalea Maeder and Ava Martin have been named BIG EAST Setter and Offensive Player of the Week, respectively, following outstanding performances last weekend. The league announced the honors on Monday.
Maeder, a native of Ried, Switzerland, led the conference with an average of 10.29 assists per set, while also contributing 2.71 digs and 0.43 kills per set. In Creighton’s matches against Villanova and Georgetown, she recorded 43 assists and 12 digs in a 3-1 victory over Villanova, followed by 29 assists, seven digs, and two kills in a 3-0 sweep of Georgetown. This performance helped the Bluejays tie a league record with their 45th consecutive regular-season BIG EAST win.
This marks Maeder’s sixth BIG EAST Setter of the Week honor this season and adds to her overall total of six for her career. She has previously received the award on September 15, September 29, October 13, October 20, and October 27.
Martin, from Overland Park, Kansas, averaged a conference-leading 5.14 kills per set and added 2.00 digs, 0.14 blocks, and 0.14 aces per set with a hitting percentage of .313. She recorded 23 kills and a season-high 14 digs against Villanova, and followed up with 13 kills in the match against Georgetown. Martin capped off her impressive home career with a perfect record of 40-0 against BIG EAST opponents at D.J. Sokol Arena.
With this recognition, Martin earns her fifth BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week award this season and the ninth for her career. Notably, she is one of only two players in Creighton’s history to achieve nine such accolades. The Bluejays have been a part of the BIG EAST for 13 seasons.
As a team, Creighton boasts a record of 21-5 and has now won 16 matches in a row. They are set to return to the court this Friday at 6 p.m. Central for a match against St. John’s, which will be broadcast on ESPN+.
