Dallas Mavericks Hire Frank Vogel as Associate Head Coach

DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Mavericks have officially hired Frank Vogel as their new associate head coach, working alongside head coach Jason Kidd. The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, by Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype.
This marks a reunion for Vogel and Kidd, who previously won an NBA title together in 2020 while with the Los Angeles Lakers. During that championship season, Kidd worked as an assistant coach under Vogel.
Vogel replaces Sean Sweeney, who recently left the Mavericks to join the San Antonio Spurs. At 52 years old, Vogel brings a wealth of experience to the Mavericks after not coaching in the previous season. His most recent head coaching role was with the Phoenix Suns, where he led the team to a 49-33 record in the 2023-24 season before being let go after a first-round playoff exit.
“Frank is a proven winner, and we believe he will make a significant impact on our team,” Kidd commented on the hiring. “His basketball IQ and leadership are exceptional.”
The Mavericks are in the midst of restructuring their coaching staff following Sweeney’s departure, trying to ensure stability as they prepare for the upcoming season. The team’s adjustments come amid rising interest in their assistant coaches from rival franchises.
Vogel’s hiring is part of a broader strategy by Dallas to enhance its coaching staff as it looks to improve on recent performances and maintain competitive standing in the league.
