David Ortiz Yankees Player Support

NEW YORK, NY — Iconic Boston Red Sox player David Ortiz broke from the tradition of rivalry by offering encouragement to Yankees pitcher Weaver, who has struggled in the playoffs. Ortiz, a Hall of Famer, acknowledged the challenges Weaver is facing during a post-game commentary on Fox Sports.

Weaver, who had a solid regular season with a 4–4 record and eight saves, found himself in trouble during the postseason. In Game 1 of the Wild Card Series against Boston, he failed to record an out, allowing two runs to score. His performance continued to falter in Game 1 of the Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, where he again struggled to retire batters.

After the tough outing, Weaver expressed frustration but remained optimistic. “I feel like I’m close. I just felt late in the adjustments I was making,” he said during a post-game interview.

In response, Ortiz advised Weaver to focus on the present rather than dwell on past mistakes. “You know, let the question come to you, answer whatever. But your mindset has to be still the same,” Ortiz said. He emphasized the importance of approaching the next game with the same mindset that helped Weaver succeed throughout the regular season.

Ortiz even shared personal advice he would give Weaver, suggesting he leave behind the negative experiences and prepare for future games. “Whatever happened today is not going to help us tomorrow,” Ortiz said.

The Yankees lost their first game of the Division Series 10-1 against the Blue Jays. The second game of the series is scheduled for Sunday, where starting pitchers Max Fried and Trey Yesavage will take the mound for their respective teams.
