Deion Sanders Colorado Buffaloes Football Game Timing Academic Concerns

Deion Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football team, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the timing of their upcoming game against Kansas State. The game, scheduled for a 10:15 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday, has Coach Prime questioning the decision-making of television executives. During the Colorado Football Coaches Show, Sanders lamented, “Who does that to us? Who does that? Who has the power to sit up there and say ‘Yeah, I’m going to make them play at 8:15 (local time)?'” He criticized the late start, arguing that it is not smart to schedule a game at a time when “half of America is asleep.”

The Buffaloes, currently 4-1 and 2-0 in Big 12 play, are preparing for a crucial matchup against No. 18 Kansas State. This game marks the Wildcats’ first return to Folsom Field since 2010. Both teams are coming off a bye week, and the Buffaloes are looking to build on their recent successes, including an overtime victory over Baylor and a league win at Central Florida.

In addition to his concerns about game timing, Coach Prime has also been addressing academic issues within the team. Sanders emphasized the importance of academic performance, stating that players who are struggling academically will need to focus on their studies or risk being removed from football responsibilities. He highlighted that the team achieved the second-highest GPA in team history in 2024 and the highest GPA in 2023 but acknowledged that some players are currently struggling. Sanders’ stance is clear: he prioritizes his players’ education and long-term success over their athletic careers.

Sanders’ tough-love approach includes strict academic rules and the possibility of allowing struggling athletes to leave the team to focus on their studies. This approach is aimed at ensuring that his players are set up for success both in the classroom and on the field. As the Buffaloes continue their 2024 season, the focus will be on how the team addresses these academic shortcomings and maintains their current level of success.
