Deniz Undav’s Hat-Trick Secures Dramatic Draw for Stuttgart
Stuttgart, Germany – Deniz Undav led Stuttgart to a thrilling 3-3 draw against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday at Signal Iduna Park. The forward scored a hat trick, including a last-minute goal that leveled the match after Karim Adeyemi had put Dortmund ahead just two minutes prior.
Dortmund started strong, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. Emre Can opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 32nd minute after Undav fouled Nico Schlotterbeck. Maximilian Beier extended the home side’s lead shortly after, scoring from close range.
However, Stuttgart made a powerful comeback in the second half. Bilal El Khannouss assisted Undav’s first goal just two minutes after the break. The former Brighton striker then equalized in the 88th minute, finishing off a good play from Maximilian Mittelstadt.
Despite a late blow from Adeyemi, who restored Dortmund’s lead, Undav struck again in stoppage time to secure a point for Stuttgart. This performance marked the first time in Undav’s career that he scored twice in consecutive Bundesliga matches. He has now scored six goals against Dortmund, more than any other opponent.
Undav’s hat trick came from an expected goals (xG) total of just 0.9, illustrating his effectiveness near the goal. Stuttgart coach Niko Kovac expressed frustration that his team was unable to secure a win, given that Dortmund had an xG of 2.91 compared to Stuttgart’s 1.48.
