Derek Carr New Orleans Saints 2024

The New Orleans Saints‘ offensive line-up has experienced a notable revival in the 2024 NFL season, primarily due to the leadership of quarterback Derek Carr. Entering his 11th season in the National Football League (NFL), Carr has led the team to top their division, with New Orleans setting its sights on capturing the NFC South title. The Saints started the season with an impressive offensive display, particularly through Week 4, as they sought redemption from their 9-8 finish in the previous year that saw them miss the playoffs.

As Carr spearheads the Saints’ offensive efforts, his role as quarterback is crucial. His performance has been pivotal, evident through a completion rate of 72.0 percent in the opening four games, which signifies a potential career high. Carr’s precise passing technique and robust presence in the pocket have been instrumental in the offensive improvement. He has notably utilized the talents of Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, and Rashid Shaheed to drive the New Orleans offense forward. Despite not possessing notable rushing ability or astonishing arm strength, Carr compensates with accuracy and strategic gameplay.

The Saints have strategically prepared for scenarios where Carr might be unable to play. Their current roster includes Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler as backup quarterbacks. Haener, a product of Fresno State, secured the QB2 position after demonstrating a commendable performance during training camps. Previously, he had a stint on the sidelines, having been suspended for six games in 2023 for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Thus far, Haener has engaged in limited action, with minimal statistical output in the current season.

Meanwhile, Spencer Rattler, known for his impressive college career with Oklahoma and South Carolina, is serving as the QB3. With a college record of 10,807 passing yards, 77 touchdowns, and 32 interceptions, Rattler is being groomed for potential increased responsibilities within the team’s quarterback ranks over time.

Derek Carr continues to build on his commendable career, which included nine seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders before joining the Saints. Throughout his professional journey, Carr has amassed substantial stats, including 39,924 passing yards and 248 touchdowns over a span of 163 games, reflecting a consistent display of skill and expertise.
